  1. -Based on what you've learned so far (tools & readings), how would you incorporate/use technology in your classroom or in education?
I like the idea of flotillas so students can have a designated time to use the computers for a certain project. For example in a science segment students can collect analyze data on the progress bread in the process of molding and express that graphically on the computer.

-Summarize what you learned from Ch 2 and Ch 4.
In Chapter 2 I learned about the importance of one computer to multiple computer as well as flotillas in classrooms. When I was in elementary time spent in the computer lab was always the most enjoyable time to my classmates and I. Technology supported content is more hands on for the students and often times more rewarding. In Chapter 4, I learned the importance of critical thinking. Children need to be able to differentiate between creditable sources and as well as analyze them. Students must be able to distinguish reputable websites and be able to analyze fact from opinion.

I like the way of using technology in classroom, it helps to enhance the content of lesson. Also using technology challenges not only students also the teacher. I would like to connect tons of resources, which is related to the subject from the internet to my lesson plan. For example, I would like to use Wikipedia website to find out the definition of words, word game or word puzzle to let students review what we learn in classroom.

In Chapter 2, I learned the concept of content learning, and multiple-computers classroom setting. I like the way of using multiple-computers in classroom, and I think it works best at 4-6th grade classroom or junior high school, For example, the English teacher that I helped last semester has multiple computers classroom setting. She always gives couple of group work, and students use computer to organize their thoughts and internet to search what they are needed for group work.
In Chapter 4, I learned the concept of critical thinking and how it works for students. Students and teachers need to compare the difference between valuable information from tons of resources and materials.

  3. I really liked the example of having kids research how fast food is for your body. With childhood obesity on the rise, I believe that is is important for children to know what is in their food. It is never too early to help children make healthy eating choices. Also, this would help them learn how to organize their research data in a logical and methodical way. Having the students compare their work is a great way to stimulate critical thinking because they have to think deeper about the material they have learned in order to communicate their findings to each other.

The teacher stimulates and facilitates critical thinking because there are many benefits for kids that can help them later in life as well as the present. Critical thinking can be used in class to help teach important life skills that kids can see how their work relates to everyday life situations. It is important to allow students to express and create through several different mediums. Take into the account that there will be several different answers for lots of questions and that as long as the student's answer is well thought out, organized and supported, it should be considered. It is also important to not inflict YOUR beliefs on the students, but rather allow them to come to their own conclusion. Making them think about things that they like is another way to get them to think critically. They are more likely to delve deeper if they are interested in what they are learning.

  4. Based on what you've learned so far (tools & readings), how would you incorporate/use technology in your classroom or in education?

Based on what I have learned so far, with regarsd to the readings and things I learned in class, I would use technology as a way to improve and assess students learning. Since I want to teach a health class, I would teach students more about the reproductive organ and how certain diseases affect them. After learning about this, I would have students creat a pamphlet of a disease of their choice with information they listed and how it can help reduce the spreading of the disease as a whole. I think this way it will encourage the students to become responsible for their learning and help them find a way to meaningfully connect what I am trying to teach them to their lives.

Chapter 2 and Chapter 4 really compliment each other well. I learned more about what goes into planning and executing a lesson plan so that it corresponds with state and national standards. Before reading these two chapters, I had no idea so much though and effort had to be put into a lessson plan. I really like all of the software options that are available to help students think critically and effectively so they can perform better. Reading these chapters makes me wish these things were available when I was going through school, but it also gives me an alternative way to better prepare my students for college. These chapters also gave me a blueprint as to how to include all students, instead of just some or most.

  5. -Based on what you've learned so far (tools & readings), how would you incorporate/use technology in your classroom or in education? Based on what I've read so far, my eyes really opened to the many functions the internet has for critical thinking based lesson plans. I guess I underestimated elementary aged kids on them knowing how to use the internet but children today definately know more than what we did about technology at that age. In my classroom I would make use of the internet with my kids so further their familiarity with it and learn how to use it effectively for their educational benefit. -Summarize what you learned from Ch 2 and Ch 4. Ch 2 Ch 2 discusses the importance of content learning in classrooms and effective and non-effective ways teachers usually use when creating lesson plans. Content learning should focus on the student acquiring three different types of knowledge which are: declarative, structural and procedural which all depend on one another to achieve the highest form of content learning for a student. Ch 4 Ch 4 focuses on the critical thinking aspect of teaching. There are many ways to incorporate technology into critical thinking based lesson plans and discovering effective ways for students to use critical thinking skills in their assignments is a challenge of its own.

  6. Chapter 2 Summary

There are levels to content knowledge that build upon each other, like building blocks, branching from the stated information and growing towards how and why things do the things they do. It is important to allow equal access both in allotted time and in physical accessibility. Content learning helps students think for themselves and helps them learn to do this in a structured and organized manner. It is important for kids to really focus on comprehending what they are learning while they are doing it otherwise they end up with lots of data and no gained knowledge. There are many software programs that encourage content learning and several of them are on the very accessible Microsoft Office. Teaching content learning through “Slam Dunks” is a great way to get kids the information that they need to know without wasting any time on frivolous activities. A lot of the web based content learning activities have to be monitored for plagiarism so teacher observance is very important.

  8. Based on what you’ve learned so far, how would you incorporate/use technology in your classroom or in education?

Power Point can be a powerful tool to use in the classroom for visual learners and to keep the students on track with what the teacher is saying. It can be used to quiz students’ knowledge on previously learned material. The teacher can also get to websites and other slides quickly, without pausing the class and wasting time, with the use of internal and external links.

Aside from Power Point, Word Processing can be a useful tool in the classroom, to help with spelling, grammar, typing, etc.

Summarize what you learned from Ch 2 and 4.

What I learned from chapter two is that people respond better to examples more than to strict narration. People like stories; proof that what your website says is fact and true. It’s also important to be accurate on your homepage and in your site as a whole; people won’t respect a site with incorrect or misleading information.

From chapter four, I learned that sometimes, it takes a little persuasion and coercion to get people to sign up for your site. Your page should be inviting and welcoming, with a slight push to join, without being overly manipulative. You want people to feel good about signing up, not regret their decision.

  9. Based on what you’ve learned so far, how would you incorporate/use technology in your classroom or in education?
I would make sure to have computers accessible to all students. So, if there was only one computer in the classroom I would make sure to have it connected to a projector for everyone to see. This would make sure that every student has the opportunity to be involved. We could have power point projects and lessons. We could also have that one computer connected to the internet so we could actively do research as a class and have every student involved.

Summarize what you learned from Ch 2 and 4.

I learned about declarative, structural, and procedural knowledge and also about the uses and set up of computers in the classroom. Declarative knowledge is discrete pieces of information that help us identify things and events. It forms the basis for all other types of knowledge. It is essential for students to achieve creative and critical thinking, communication, production, and inquiry. Structural knowledge is the understanding of how declarative knowledge fits together. Information is developed into a mental model. Examples would be classifications, categorizations, and concept maps. Procedural knowledge is the understandings of how to do something. The physical arrangement of the classroom can affect how students learn. Technology can include one or multiple computers in a classroom and labs. Computers must be accessible to all students. This can be accomplished by using monitors or projectors to have all students involved. Multiple computers can be set into activity zones, centers for research or other things. Labs should be set up in a more flexible way for collaboration and learning. Effective learning includes, engaged students, encouragement for students to be strategic, requires collaboration, and focuses on essential questions. I also learned about critical thinking. It is the ability to analyze and make decisions and explanations. I also learned about different strategy software that would be useful such as First Step Kid Skill which is for students age 7-13 and helps with getting organized and learning and doing homework.

  10. What you've learned so far (tools & readings), how would you incorporate/use technology in your classroom or in education?
To incorporate technology in a classroom I would design projects that included power point, word documents, and spreadsheets. Spreadsheets would be very useful in terms of keeping track of grades year long. When using power points or other multimedia I would incorporate critical thinking methods and effective technology-enhanced learning activates
I learned what content learning is and the 3 types of knowledge it consists of. Content learning is both what the content is and what learning is. Declarative knowledge is the source for identifying other things, expanding ideas, and forms the basis for all other types of knowledge. Structural knowledge is the knowledge of understanding how pieces of information fit together to form declarative knowledge. You can think of structural knowledge as a mental model of guidance. Procedural knowledge is simply the knowledge to perform an action. An example would be how to drive or turn off a computer properly. The physical aspects of a technology based classroom is important. Students can learn and interact differently based on how the room is designed. For example, when computers are in rows students would have a difficult time working together.
Critical thinking can be thought of using your knowledge to the fullest extent. For example, don’t believe everything you read on Wikipedia because it’s not published by a specific author or company. There is different technology in place to make full use of your critical thinking. The software that can be incorporated will expand students ideas and help them expand their knowledge.
